With Persian and Scottish heritage by way of North London, Raphaella is an emerging singer/songwriter and producer displaying an exoticism and sophistication way beyond her years. Sprinkling Persian influences into her own highly polished and distinctive production, it’s seen Raphaella already grab viral plays on BBC R1, BBC R1Xtra, and features in The Guardian and Music Week.
And the musical talent is backed up by real substance here: Raphaella decided to write her university dissertation on political protest music (she graduated from the Institute of Contemporary Music performance, alumni include Foxes and Daughter) and she was recently invited to become one of the select Roundhouse ‘Associate Artists’.
It’s the raw potential in Raphaella that’s most appealing; not just in the individuality she manages to bring to a plainly personal song and one that made SOHN but also as a songwriter with a natural ear for a hook, a producer of all of her own material. Smart, capable and in her own lane, one to watch.
