Liana Banks is a 25-year-old singer/ songwriter and native New Yorker from Queens. Surrounded by a family of accomplished musicians who performed professionally on Broadway and sang jazz and gospel, Liana always gravitated toward her creative side. Though shy as a child, she began writing songs at an early age to express herself, and soon realized her passion was rooted in music and performance. During high school, she spent most of her time involved in theater, talent shows, and dance recitals, but all of that was soon to change. Through pure chance, Liana had the opportunity to audition for Chris Brown as a background dancer for an MTV performance and secured the slot. The experience watching Chris rehearse and perform was so inspiring, that it solidified her realization that she wanted to be an artist.
Using her songwriting skills to get in the door, Liana was quickly able to get into studio/writing sessions with legendary producers like Scott Storch, Jerry Wonda, and JR Rotem straight out of high school. She soon found herself crafting and submitting songs for artists like Rihanna, Nikki Minaj, and Justine Skye. All of this experience nurtured her writing abilities and prepared her to begin to make her own music.
Liana cites influences from female artists with strong images like Grace Jones and Missy Elliot, but her all time favorite performer is James Brown. Although she is inspired by the creativity of those past icons, Liana’s music is taking giant steps towards the future. Her unique sound blends pop sheen with a raw urban perspective in a colorful way that is only matched by her signature green hair. Liana’s upcoming project Insubordinate is an urban pop headphone masterpiece for a new generation.
