Dom started making music from his bedroom in Newcastle at the age of 12. Honing his skills he quickly began making a name for himself on the local hip-hop scene. This garnered him some national attention, and by the age of 19 his beats were being used by artists such as Raekwon, Skinnyman and Fallacy.
With a change in musical direction, Dom Zilla saw underground success and critical acclaim producing and co-writing for Lulu James – a heady fusion of her soulful vocal tones juxtaposed against his warped electronic textures and sparse beats. This included the songs Rope Mirage, Halfway to Hell and the Black Butter classic, Be Safe.
Rather than exclusively writing and producing for other people (from Karen Harding, Lulu James, to Aiden Grimshaw); Dom Zilla is now stepping from behind the boards, unveiling his own compelling and dynamic project. With Dom Zilla’s new E.P, we see a more sonically evolved and progressed sound. A sound that ranges from euphoric ambient indie tones through to glitchy drum n bass, whilst maintaining a thread of pop sensibility throughout. Dom Zilla’s vast array of influences range from contemporaries like Fly Lo and Kanye West, through to Steely Dan and Marvin Gaye, which is reflected in the electronic yet soulful soundscape that he has created.
Dom is set to release his solo E.P., ’Chasing Days’ in October to coincide with his first solo London show (TBA).
