Dom McAllister is a 22 year-old singer/songwriter raised in London. As a kid, his father introduced him to soul music around the house, leading him to artists like Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin and Bob Marley.
It led McAllister to pick up both the guitar and piano at sixteen – but it wasn’t until last year that he was discovered by producer Bless Beats (Wiley, Tinie Tempah, Jess Glynne) and his new label Ragamuffin Records co-founder, songwriter Jin Jin – after Bless heard Dom singing in the corridors of The Roundhouse, Camden where he had been recording his demos.
What Bless and Jin Jin have stumbled upon is an exceptionally poised soul singer embedded in the story-telling ways of his young idols. Dom’s debut release “In Time”, the first release from his upcoming debut EP, feels immediately modern and yet elegant – and it’s the flourishes of natural soul that come across in the 22 year-old’s vocal that really excites: Jamie Woon, and Kwabs’ effortless, natural London soul spring to mind. It’s an assured, talented and yet curiously humble introduction to an artist that’s feels like something very special.
Speaking on the track, Dom states: “It’s a confident take on departure, a shady yet positive outlook on when chapters end.”
